Welcome to Epic Gardens

Working for sustainable agriculture, connected community and plenty of good food for all

Epic Gardens, located near Bon Air, Virginia, is a local source for fresh vegetables, herbs, eggs (from part-time free-range chickens) and cut flowers.  We also provide hands-on instruction in holistic gardening practices including soil building, integrated pest management, and growing food according to G.A.O.P. or generally accepted organic practices.

Welcome to Epic Gardens
We hope you
'll grow with us.

It
's an Epic in the sense of being an unfolding story with some length, depth and charm.  Each season brings different players, starting with neighbors who became friends.  The terrain and resident critters have changed, and the gardeners have aged, but the spirit is still friendly and neighborly.

We grow vegetables and keep chickens.  The fruits of our labor are shared with friends and neighbors through an email list.  There's a blueberry patch across the lane from the main gardens.  Beyond that are several Community Garden plots, the biomass area (huge compost!) and local blackberries and wildflowers to pick.

NEW Epic CSA Launches
We’re excited!  For the past 5 years, folks have asked if we would have a CSA, and the answer was a cautious ‘not yet’ as we got our gardening chops down.  Now, we’re ready!  To learn more and to apply, click here for the
Epic CSA  brochure!

While we grow lettuces, squashes, beans and tomatoes, our main product is the vegetable soybean, Glycine max, or Edamame, which is Japanese for beans on the branch.  Nutritious, delicious, and hardy, Edamame enables people to eat lower on the food chain.

High quality protein is essential to a good diet, and Edamame is a good source of protein; it's rich in vitamins, minerals, fiber and beneficial oils. Besides, it tastes good and is fun to eat.
